How is cap & trade making electricity & natural gas prices higher going to reduce our dependence on?
foreign oil?
The libs keep saying how cap & trade will reduce our dependence on foreign oil. When gas is $5 a gallon like the Obama administration wants they will indeed make us use less oil.
We don’t use oil to make electricity though…
I am asking you to explain it. Old McCain propoganda is meaningless since he lost.
They know that green energy is more expensive is this is nothing short of making the good energy that is currently cheap more expensive thus it is nothing more than to manipulate the market into accepting a bad product but it matters not because after all the jobs are gone the govt will be sending checks to everyone to subsidize everyone;s existence and you will need a wheel barrel to buy a loaf or $20,000,000 bread. Can you say hyperinflation like Zimbabwe?
Pickens Wants to Use Natural Gas to Fuel Cars. Does Pickens Forget that Gas Comes from Drilling for Oil?
Experts have called Pickens plan to shift fuel from oil to natural gas similar to "jumping out of the frying pan into the fire."
Does that sound like a great idea?
Why isn’t Pickens just calling for us to use more nuclear plants. France gets 80% of their electricity from nuclear energy. Why don’t we? Aren’t our elected liberals as capable as France’s liberals?
Pickens is in it for money. Natural gas is not a good alternative to gasoline or it would already be being used more widely. You still have to drill and you have to refine and transport. It will power your car. It will also add weight and decrease the drive distance between refills.
Here in the fly over country a lot of good ol’ boys run propane or natural gas but the tank takes up a good portion of the bed.
He stands to gain no profit if we use nuclear energy which would allow us to convert to electric and electric hybrids.
what makes natural gas a good or bad choice? what are some advantages or disadvantages?
is the fuel energy efficient? why or why not?
what is the average cost of natural gas?
Natural Gas burns clean, but it is a non-renewable resource. My opinion is natrual gas is a good choice as long as they keep their inspections of the lines current to make sure nothing bad happens. I know of at least 3 instances in Maryland (when we lived there) of houses blowing up because of gas leaks. Luckily nobody was home when it happened.
Here are our prices in Colorado Springs:
Natural Gas
Access charge per day $0.3142
Access charge per CCF $0.1262
Natural gas cost per CCF $0.6034
GCA per CCF $0.0000
Compare this to when we lived in Maryland:
2.RATE TABLE:
Customer Charge . . .$ 13.00 per month, plus
Delivery Price (For all gas used) .. 25.61 cents per therm
As far as average cost that would be hard to determine unless you could get prices from across the country. You will find the Northeast will be typically higher than most places.
As far as appliances go, the newer ones should be more efficient. For furnaces the lowest rating you can get is 80AFUE, which basically means $.80 out of every dollar you spend goes towards heating your house. The higher the rating the better.
Sarah:
I think ethanol was off topic for this one, but they do have something called Full Flex Gold that is a converter so you can run regular gas or E85. I dont know how much or how prevalent E85 is in your area, but here in Colorado Springs E85 is running around $1 cheaper than regular 85 Octane gas. Website is below for the converter.
The Full Flex is the only 2007 OBD 2 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliant E85 ethanol conversion kit in the United States.
Natural gas composition?
There was a gas leak in the building at work today. The plumber, gas company, and other people said that the gas is denser than the air, so it sinks. I accept that fact, I know there are dangers of using propane heaters in a duck boat because the gas can settle in the bottom of the boat.
But when I was in 8th grade, we did a science experiment. We filled up drycleaning bags with the natural gas that comes from the spigots of each lab table (for the bunsen burners). Then we put in a SASE in each bag, taped them shut, and released them outside. All the bags floated off. They were made of transparent plastic. That implies the gas is lighter than air.
So why are there warning about the natural gas settling in a basement or other low areas? I natural gas composed of methane, ethane, propane, butane, etc but in diminishing percentages?
Usually the composition f natural gas is as follows:
Component Typical Analysis(mole %) Range(mole %)
Methane 94.9 87.0 – 96.0
Ethane 2.5 1.8 – 5.1
Propane 0.2 0.1 – 1.5
iso – Butane 0.03 0.01 – 0.3
normal – Butane 0.03 0.01 – 0.3
iso – Pentane 0.01 trace – 0.14
normal – Pentane 0.01 trace – 0.04
Hexanes plus 0.01 trace – 0.06
Nitrogen 1.6 1.3 – 5.6
Carbon Dioxide 0.7 0.1 – 1.0
Oxygen 0.02 0.01 – 0.1
Hydrogen trace trace – 0.02
Specific Gravity 0.585 0.57 – 0.62
GHV(MJ/m3), dry* 37.8 36.0 – 40.2
Why is petroleum always the preferred fuel over natural gas in driving vehicles?
Natural gas, or methane if you prefer, is a much more volatile substance and is more costly to transport.
Do natural gas prices depend on where you live?
Or is there a national rate?
Yes the price depends on where you live. Just like with gasoline, water, electricity, heating oil, etc.
What reasons (other than special interest groups) prevent the U.S. from switching cars to run on natural gas?
I saw a commercial by T. Boone Pickens stating Iran is switching cars to run on natural gas in order to be able to sell more of their oil for record profits. If the U.S. has considerable natural gas reserves right here at home, why aren’t we switching in order to reduce our dependence on foreign oil?
US has other natural resources more readily available than Natural Gas … not to mention a very large percentage of the world’s automobiles to convert which would drive natural gas prices out of affordable range. Home heating by Natural Gas would be in crisis.
I believe Hydrogen (fuel cells producing electricity) will be a better long-range choice. In the mean-time, there are a lot of people thinking hard about how to handle the situation.
Would it be a good idea to switch vehicles from running on gasoline to natural gas?
These are the advantages of using natural gas in vehicles.
1. We have plenty of natural gas in this country
2. It is less polluting than oil
3. It is cheaper
4. It costs less to make a vehicle than can run on natural gas than a electric vehicle or hybrid vehicle.
yes because natural gas is very clean!
Why do we trust Nancy Pelosi to make energy policy when she doesn’t even know natural gas is a fossil fuel?
The following are quotes by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi from the transcript of her Meet the Press interview with Tom Brokaw on 08/24/08:
"No, it isn’t, but you could — again, you could reduce the price at the pump immediately with (inaudible). You can have a transition with natural gas. You can have a transition with natural gas. That is cheap, abundant and clean compared to fossil fuels."
"I’m — I’m investing in something I believe in. I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels."
"Well, that’s not — that is the marketplace. The fact is, the supply of natural gas is so big, and you do need a transition if you’re going to go from fossil fuels, as you say, you can’t do it overnight, but you must transition."
Does she really not understand that natural gas is a fossil fuel?
Patrick and Rottie Mom, of course she doesn’t make energy policy on her own. But as speaker, she has the unique power to influence what is in the bill before she brings the bill up for a vote.
She plays an active role in formulating the democratic policy on energy, as this 2007 article, entitled "Pelosi Unveils House Energy Bill" demonstrates.
http://www.platts.com/Oil/Resources/News%20Features/energybill07/index.xml?src=energybulletin
Rottie mom, I agree with you that "Surely one of them must have a clue." However, given the importance of a sound energy policy, don’t you think that ALL of the decision-makers should have a clue? And…don’t you think that those who DON’T have a clue should be excluded from the process?
Nancy Pelosi doesn’t make energy policy. She is the House Speaker and only decides on what bills go up for a vote. Legislators or the President write bills that are voted on in the Congress and signed by the President to become a law.I wish you had paid attention in your American Government class.
That said, Pelosi was mistaken in thinking natural gas is not a fossil fuel but I still don’t see any larger implications in this issue given she doesn’t make energy policy.
Did you know that for a business license to convert vehicles from Gas to Natural Gas it costs $70,000.00 +?
That’s right our glorious big lobbyist catering hypocrites in congress. Give you a tax credit but slam businesses that want to as a business convert vehicles to Natural Gas with a $70,000.00 permit cost per model vehicle per year.
Wonder why that alternative isn’t more wide spread
You’re 100% correct! everyone is already corrupted and that’s the reason why the SECR Cars are not allowed and the inventor live in another country. see www.santanaeffect.com there you can see car with 1.2 megawatts power with range up to 1000 miles.
