PostHeaderIcon Is it true that natural gas prices went into the negative in the UK?

I’m getting crushed by one of the natural gas ETF’s right now, wondering if this latest supply increase is enough to drive the price to 0 and beyond?
here’s the quote I’m talking about:
As a result, natural gas storage facilities are close to overflowing. As Monday’s Financial Times reports, that creates a risk that spot prices will fall even further. Indeed “a 2006 gas glut in the UK briefly pushed wholesale prices there below zero.”

The price will never go to zero. At some point production will be cut and wells shut in. Its a boom and bust business. They always overshoot on both sides because it takes time to get the machinery moving and to slow them down. Its like a freight train. You cant stop it on a dime. And nobody knows exactly where to stop in this business until its too late. Or when to start again. There’s a shortage and everyone starts drilling and pumping, then there is a surplus. There is never a happy medium.

PostHeaderIcon Some in the U. S. are promoting the use of natural gas to power our cars and trucks. While in Canada,?

I thought I saw a service station that sold both gas and natural gas. Is that common in Canada? Do you have experiences with cars that run on natural gas?

I’ve seen cars that run on propane, never natural gas though. From what I understand, it’s pretty easy to switch over a car from gas to propane. I have never seen a filling station offering it though.

PostHeaderIcon Does global warming have any advantages?

What are the advantages of fossil fuels, coal, natural gas, and other non-renewable sources, and what are the advantages of global warming?

New yorkers won’t have to go to Florida during the winter.

PostHeaderIcon How come people think greener living is just about using less gas?

Don’t we need to focus on using less of all natural resources, like land, forests and electricity, and produce less stuff? Is there any good literature or something I could get some real facts from, so I can explain the facts to people who start an argument with me?

You ask two very good questions. Climate change is about much more than just how much gas we are using. However think about what things that you personally control directly. One of the biggest things an everyday person does that impacts the environment is burning gasoline in his or her car. If you calculate your own personal carbon foot print you are likely to find that your gasoline consumption is the single largest contributor. So that represents the biggest thing people can do personally to make a difference.

If you are interested in becoming knowledgeable about global warming, understand that it is a technically complex science. It is hard work intellectually to understand it, but it is also very interesting. I strongly recommend that you start with wikipedia (first link). The wiki pages are generally well written and accurate. Also they are full of good links to more authoritative sources of information. Another excellent source is RealClimate (second link). It is a site maintained by several actual climate scientists who are actively engaged in research. It is probably one of the most direct links to the most scientifically current and valid information sources available to a non-scientist. Highly recommended.
