PostHeaderIcon New Gas Stove: w/Gas broiler vs. w/Electric broiler?

Im buying a new stove. We have natural gas, but I see there are new stoves that have gas ovens, yet they also have an electric element for broiling. I was always under the impression that real fire was better for cooking.

What are the advantages of having one of these hybrid ovens? The guy at the store told me "professional cooks prefer electric broilers" which of course sounds like a lie just to get me to buy the oven.

Any thoughts?

I have never been able to get a gas broiler to work. The flames shoot upward, and all of the heat dissipates into the oven…my food comes out warm, but not broiled.

Alternately, I’ve had great luck with electric broilers. I grew up with an all electric kitchen, so it’s like breathing for me. But the electric broilers I’ve used have worked consistently, getting the heat directed toward my food, which accomplishes my goal.

That’s my two cents, which is probably worth about half a penny. :)
