I’d like to hear from people who support and who are against increased Nuclear Power in the U.S.?
Personally I support an increase in the construction and use of Nuclear Power plants in the U.S. The risk of a Chernobyl like accident in the U.S. is low thanks to different reactor designs.It produces far more energy for the amount of material then natural gas,coal,or oil.It has very minimal air pollutants.It would be OUR energy source incrreasing our security as well as provide technical,construction, and security jobs.Admittedly there is small but real risk of accidents but modern technology and knowledge can limit fatalities.In fact natural gas explosions and coal mining kills more people .Though nuclear waste is bad it CAN be buried under mountains safely as it already is being done and perhaps one day we can send that same waste into space.It is our number one energy security source and regardless of what naysayers want the layperson to think it’s safe,clean, and will help with Global Warming,Security,and water pollution due to oil tanker accidents.
They can recycle spent nuclear fuel. Just to let you know. Nuclear waste reprocessing is almost as old as the commercial application nuclear reactors (it might be older, those who were in the weapons program…. did a lot of research this stuff)
I am for it. Most people who are against it don’t know all the facts or don’t want to know, b/c they are fueled emotions.
South Africa doesn’t have all the resources the US does and they are 10 years ahead on the the Gen IV reactors (look up Pebble Bed Modular Reactor), b/c they are simply ambitious and want the benefits of this technology.

How come people think greener living is just about using less gas?
Don’t we need to focus on using less of all natural resources, like land, forests and electricity, and produce less stuff? Is there any good literature or something I could get some real facts from, so I can explain the facts to people who start an argument with me?
You ask two very good questions. Climate change is about much more than just how much gas we are using. However think about what things that you personally control directly. One of the biggest things an everyday person does that impacts the environment is burning gasoline in his or her car. If you calculate your own personal carbon foot print you are likely to find that your gasoline consumption is the single largest contributor. So that represents the biggest thing people can do personally to make a difference.
If you are interested in becoming knowledgeable about global warming, understand that it is a technically complex science. It is hard work intellectually to understand it, but it is also very interesting. I strongly recommend that you start with wikipedia (first link). The wiki pages are generally well written and accurate. Also they are full of good links to more authoritative sources of information. Another excellent source is RealClimate (second link). It is a site maintained by several actual climate scientists who are actively engaged in research. It is probably one of the most direct links to the most scientifically current and valid information sources available to a non-scientist. Highly recommended.

Are gas prices and natural disasters a sign of the end?

which of any of the car makers can configure large passenger vans (capacity of 15) at the factory to work with compressed natural gas instead of converting them after the fact?
Ford and Chevy … Mostly Trucks. You will find most of the vehicles used by your gas/electric supplier have all there vehicles set up on CNG.
why are people not demanding that congress allow drilling for oil?
we keep hearing people complain about the price of gas and diesel and the fact that prices will only keep climbing. yet, these very same people are not demanding congress get off its brains and open up the entire country to more drilling for oil and natural gas. yes, id like to see development of viable alternatives to oil but while we spend the years necessary researching and develooping it, why not use the resources that we have on hand. can we really be so stupid to value the environment and animal life over our own existence?
Drilling for more oil would only help a little in the short term. Yes, some alternative fuels would take years to be viable, but so would oil. It takes years to build oil rigs and to transport the oil throughout the country. Seriously, the oil in ANWR would only last about three months and it would not decrease the price that much.
Instead of demanding that congress allows drilling for oil, we should demand of congress more alternative fuels, like electric cars, solar, and hydrogen. Those industries need subsidies to lower the prices of electric cars and increase research for solar and hydrogen cars.
And yes, I value the environment and animal life over our own "existence". What you mean by existence is that we should be able to drive huge cars everywhere we want to go, right? Because I exist perfectly fine, I am perfectly able to walk and bike more. It doesn’t kill me, actually it makes me healthier, so really it makes my actual existence on earth longer.
