PostHeaderIcon What do you think of T. Boone Pickens plan to reduce US demand for foreign oil?

natural gas prices have risen recently due to the fact they have built several natural gas powered electric plants. I think he is on to a good idea. What do you think?
the whole point of Pickens plan is to use wind to replace natural gas electric plants.

Please people, don’t be so easily led. This guy has more going on than Windmills. He has been trying to TAKE thousands of acres of privately owned ranch lands in Texas for several years now through Eminent Domain . This is about water rights and his desire to pump water out of Ogallala reservoir and sell it to Dallas for a profit. He wants to run the power along the same pipe line as the water. He is an exploiter who uses his pull in Congress for his own benefit. I’m not saying wind power can’t help but this guy needs to be recognized for what he is and not a hero.

PostHeaderIcon what is *extensive oil + gas extracting from the Planet going to do ?

i’m reffering to the fact that naturally oil + gas & other riches are actually part of our earth, which has a tectonic dynamic and layers upon layers of rock, earth, water, gas, oil and other thing…do you think that depleting all gas and oil from earth will destroy the natural equilibrium of our planet ? some also view our planet as a living being with oil as it’s blood

I believe That we in The 20th&21st century have caused damage from the depletion of the natural resources. And ultimately cursed the future generations with catastrophic events yet to unviel. As a direct result of our negligence ,and will be known as the barbarians of all time .We waste ,we destroy ,we consume ,pollute and cause devastation with no conscious or care .For the future children and the disregard to they’re environment ,or the decay of it ! You are correct in every definition ."Out of balance"!!

PostHeaderIcon Petrol and Gas. May we pushed to go again to the dry wood period ? may we pushed to go by bicycles ?

To be frank with you, my mum cooked on dry wood. my dad went on cycle. No problem on those periods. we extended our necessacities and it is natural. i don’t know the alternative for gas and petrol. we are not against using petrol/gas, and in fact we need it. But, we afraid of threatening prices. how can an ordinary family to meet raising the prices often ? i come to you on overall confusion and fear.
Dark…. so vexed..some philosophy….are you sad on seeing my question?

how long we have to bear the cost. Already, life is running under overdrafts, loans etc., we have to find an alternative, until such time we can use the old method and in fact it is good. nothing wrong. we have to survive. we have to cook food. what to do ? as you say, we are pushed.. ok..nice idea, but it is impossible, i think. But, even now in remote village areas, they do this.

PostHeaderIcon NATTY GAS

Robby Cronstedt & Zack Guzman Rap About Gas… ya dig?

Lyrics:
1 2 3 and to the four,
Zack and Robbie are here to make sure you know
Gas is here, and thats the way its gonna be,
These are all the facts and you can trust these.

Natural gas, natural gas
Is that a leak in your pipe you betta watch yo asthma
Thats a health implication,
Dont breath that or youll die of suffocation

Whats that noise, coming through your pipes?
Its natural gas, the cleanest energy type
Half the carbon emissions of coal
And nearly 30 percent of oil

Enough gas to last a hundred years,
So proponents of coal wipe them tears.
Cause more gas is discovered daily
And 97% is domestically.

Pros- its here and its cheap
Cons- you breath it undetected, and you fall asleep
FOR EVA
But dont fret my friends
Cause to smell gas they add odorants

Pros- less than a third of supply, s being used
We can use more dont be confused
Cons- it releases methane
But thats global warming we dont want to talk about that again.

BOOM! Its natural gas!
Put yo lighter away boy watch your asthma

BOOM! Its natural gas!
Put you lighter away boy watch your ash-es

Natural gas, natural gas
Is that a leak in your pipe you betta watch yo asthma
Thats a health implication,
Dont breath that or youll die of suffocation

Light that gas and put on the pot
Next grab that Ramen and put it right on top.
Yo Zack, drop it likes its hot

Mmm, Im feeling dirty
Getting in the shower at 11:30
Damn! That waters cold
Neva shoulda put my gas bill on hold.

Check out the guy that takes yo trash,
Yep thats right he uses natural gas

Check out the guy who delivers yo glass
Yep thats right he uses natural gas

Check out the bus that arrives at last
Yep, that right he uses natural gas

Water is for sippin on, not to rely upon
For the earths energy production
Hydropower is for losers and chumps
Psh, why not just use fairy dust?

Nah shake that gas, shake that gas
Nah spank that gas, spank that gas.
Nah pass that gas, pass that gas.

Nah shake that gas, shake that gas
Nah spank that gas, spank that gas.
Nah pass that gas, pass that gas.

Nah shake that gas, shake that gas
Nah spank that gas, spank that gas.
Nah pass that gas, pass that gas.

PostHeaderIcon Can you believe how much energy we waste?

I’m in the middle of a project for college here. Some interesting facts: Oil production peaked in the mid seventies, natural gas production will peak in 2020, the most efficient engine we use at the moment is the diesel engine which is approx 40% efficient for the fuel put in to the work done. Renewable energy (solar, wind, tidal, etc) still only accounts for a tiny percentage of the energy we use! We are totally screwed! We still breed like rabbits and still don’t treat the world responsibly! At this rate the world will be out of resources within 100 years, by then we’ll HAVE to use renewable sources of energy but the pollutants that will exist then will have completely b*ggered up the planet! Any thoughts?
Jeez Kev, that’s a bit harsh, not getting any? In fact they reckon the population will increase and hold at approximately 10 billion by 2050. We are indeed using more oil than ever but the overall number of SOURCES of oil has not been increasing since the seventies. Read the question and don’t make assumptions. Live and let live. And lose the superior attitude.

Hey T M Good Question.

Have a look at [Link 1] I think it will help flesh out your project.

Focusing in on the population curve: have you wondered why it’s shown to flatten out (sigmoid growth)? And more importantly do you believe that it will simply flatten out? [Link 2 & 3]

I think we’re in for a bit of boom and bust regards global population levels. Declining fertility rates (not contraception) and lack of access to basic requirements (clean food and water) will eventually mean that the population will reach equilibrium – a starvation equilibrium. But declinig natural resources, shifting enironmental conditions, competition for scarsening resources and habitable areas (leading to wars – and we’ve seen that in Iraq already) combined with the environmental impact of global warming; put all this together and I recon we’re headed for a population crash.

Best wishes LT

PS: Making statements that could possibly be construded as acknowledging the bleeding obvious, namely that we are trashing the planet big time and that we are, for example responsible for global warming – is a rather contentious area and as you have seen with at least one respondent, likely to lead to a ‘naysyaer’ back lash. Don’t be put off – you’re spot on with your observations – and remember the debate on environmental issue has now moved on – the debate is OVER, we are screwing up the environment and behaving irresponsibly, that’s now the offical position. However, for some people no matter how much evidence is brought forward, no matter how bad the weather gets or how many species go extinct, no matter how many people starve to death or are displaced from their homes due to rising sea levels or drought or other climatic changes, they’ll never believe that it’s us to blame – that’s because they have alterior motives (namely vested self interest, greed and/or stupidity) which are over riding their morals (assuming they have any) and common sense (again assuming they have any).

PostHeaderIcon How long has coal been around in Kentucky?

How long has coal been around in Kentucky?
Has it effected our economy?
Has coal effected your life? (this is optional)
Has the amount discovered increased from 1975 or any other time before 2000?
Also if you have other facts about coal or Natural Resources like Natural Gas, and Oil?

Coat has been in Kentucky for at least ONE HUNDRED MILLION YEARS.

PostHeaderIcon Our fireplace (natural gas) seems to only have blue flames, no orange. It looks horrible. Any suggestions?

We have had the gas company here and he says that the fireplace is just very efficeint and that is why it burns blue. I like the fact it pumps out lots of heat but it looks horrible and during the day you can’t even see the flames! Not very romantic or relaxing. Just wondering if there is a way to make it burn less efficient or create more orange flame. Thanks….

Leave the gas adjustment alone and simply reduce the air input by partially closing the air shutter located at the end of the burner. There may be a lock screw that needs loosening before you can move the shutter. Adjust it until you are satisfied with a soft yellow tipped flame. If it begins to soot or create an odor, re-adjust the other way slightly to prevent that. Always verify the fireplace damper is open when the decorative logs are on. FYI: home depot (among others) have artificial embers that you can place along the base of the fire to enhance the look, and painting the inside of the fireplace black also enhances the appearance of the flames.
