KC Saves Money By Using Natural Gas As Fuel
As gas prices continue to climb, the city of Kansas City has found a way to fuel up its vehicles for $1.61 a gallon.
One-fourth of the city’s cars and trucks are powered by natural gas.
Kansas City fleet superintendent Sam Swearngin doesn’t have a savings projection for the entire fleet, but he said the city is saving $84,000 a month on fuel just for its airport shuttle buses, which run on natural gas.
The city has been running part of its fleet on natural gas since 1992.
Swearngin said Honda is still making natural gas cars, but you have to get your own natural gas tank. He said the start-up costs, including some tax rebates, are about $25,000.
