Our fireplace (natural gas) seems to only have blue flames, no orange. It looks horrible. Any suggestions?
We have had the gas company here and he says that the fireplace is just very efficeint and that is why it burns blue. I like the fact it pumps out lots of heat but it looks horrible and during the day you can’t even see the flames! Not very romantic or relaxing. Just wondering if there is a way to make it burn less efficient or create more orange flame. Thanks….
Leave the gas adjustment alone and simply reduce the air input by partially closing the air shutter located at the end of the burner. There may be a lock screw that needs loosening before you can move the shutter. Adjust it until you are satisfied with a soft yellow tipped flame. If it begins to soot or create an odor, re-adjust the other way slightly to prevent that. Always verify the fireplace damper is open when the decorative logs are on. FYI: home depot (among others) have artificial embers that you can place along the base of the fire to enhance the look, and painting the inside of the fireplace black also enhances the appearance of the flames.
Unfortunately gas does not have a whole lot of orange color flames.

Well you could somehow try to restrict the amount of gas coming throught to the fireplace, because if there is less gas the flame will be more orange BUT the downside of that is it won’t create much heat. Blue flame is much hotter than orange flame. I’m sorry I don’t know how you could restrict the gas flow, perhaps talk to the gas company about doing that (they probably won’t want you to because then you’ll use less gas!)

You can ajust the flow of gas by turning in the screw..It will reduce gas flow and increase air flow.The more air the more orange.Not a good idea if you don’t know what you’re doing.I would stick with the blue flame.Means its working .

Personal Experience
there is probably regulator on the system, it can be adjusted for more air which should give you more yellow. but you will not be burning tthe gas efficently.
