Please include facts that can be proven
this is for a debate im having so plz include facts and reason

Define "better" – alternatives for sure are a lot more expensive and will be for many years. Today, renewables supply less than 1% of the fuel needs of the US. If they continue to grow at the current rate, it will take about 3 to 5 years to double that.
Pollution is already on it’s way down and will continue to fall even with increased consumption. As the price of renewable technologies continues to come down it will move more and more into the mainstream and reduce conventional fuel’s proportion of the market.

The link below does a reasonable job of discussing the pros and cons of each.

The alternative fuels being promoted are renewable. In other words, we are not depleting our energy reserve.

If you burn aheap of coal you are burning fossilised carbon that is out of the carbon cycle, and would stay that way if you didn’t dig it up and burn it.

If you grow a field of elephant grass and burn that you are only putting the carbon dioxide back in to the environment that you took out a few months back (the grass will absorb / capture carbon in its structuire as it grows, this is released when burning).
