Effiency I would go with Hydrogen at present state of developement
Cost bottled natural gasPropane etc.
Ecological, Methane from cattle if you could collect and compress it without using electricity or any other fossile fuled power source.
Practicality, again bottled gas Propane.
Assuming by vehicle you mean wheeled road vehicle!!
